Lying on your resume is a bad risk. If you have a big gap in your work history, you can explain that you were working, perhaps not for money, but that you were doing something even if it was for family or friends. Hopefully you were using the time to further your skill or education. Your resume should seem to fit the job offering description, but seem natural at the same time.
